One Way Or Another

Every year, at Halloween, the mostly covers Spanish band Broken Peach puts out a new video with a spooky take on a rock standard. In 2023, they infused Blondie's "One Way Or Another" with a scary basketball motif. Their trademark elaborate costuming and synchronized jerky dance movements are all present in the video. Musically, the cover sounds like a Wes Borland reimagine of the classic tune if he had three brilliant señoritas to work with instead of Fred Durst. The cheerleading chants merge the music with the concept of the video and simply work for the format.

The video is inspired and perfect for the season. My only disappointment with the treatment of the song is the exclusion of the original guitar solo. The simple and economical but effective solo is one of my all-time favorites and the highlight of the track for me.

For an even more frightening cut, checkout this year's cover of "Enter Sandman" by Metallica. Creepy!

Stop Me If You Think That You’ve Heard This One Before

One testament to my affection for the Smiths is the fact that I desperately wanted to hate them. My girlfriend in high school sung their praises, but we weren’t totally in sync in the music department. I was turned off by what I saw as the pretentiousness of Morrissey,
